Snow and a Growing Boy

Hi, everybody!

It’s official.  The lovely fall season is moving into a fall/winter precursor.  On Wednesday morning, I opened the blinds to see a blanket of white on the cars, roofs, trees and ground.  Thankfully, it didn’t stay too long. Apparently, the temperature has been getting fairly chilly at night because in the daytime, it’s around 45-48 degrees.

Because of the chilly weather and an AMAZING (for Alaska) sale on apples, I’m going to try to use my crockpot to make some applesauce and apple butter.  Those of you that know me know that I try to make real food with minimal sugar.  So, I went on Pinterest to some of my favorite “pinners” and found a recipe for applesauce that has no sugar and a recipe for apple butter that has minimal sugar.  We’ll see how it goes.

Yesterday was our little guy’s nine-month checkup.  We took him to the clinic and found out that he is now 19 lbs/ 2oz and 31 inches long.  At first, I began to freak out because I thought he should weigh more than that, but the doctor explained that he’s still following his growth chart pattern – the curve has just greatly diminished.  He now has two teeth and a scab under his chin where he landed when he fell trying to pull himself up.

It’s so much fun watching our little guy grow and learn.  He loves to put things in the kitty crate, close the door, and open it up again.  He then removes the toy and starts the process all over.  He is such a little smiler too.  On Tuesday, we literally spent about five minutes just laughing.  At first, I had done something silly and he just started this belly laugh which made me laugh even harder.  He thought this was even funnier and laughed harder which made me…well, you get the picture.  It was so much fun!  This week, he also figured out that he could give Mama and Daddy his treats.  So now, he eats a few and then smiles and tries to put one in our mouths.  He’s such a little mimic!  I love watching him try to do things that we do.  It’s been a sweet reminder that I need to be careful, because there is a little pair of eyes watching me and – likely – copying me as well.

I hear some quiet talking coming from our little guy’s bedroom, so I’m going to sign off.  Have a wonderful day!
